to admit president obama is actually leading mitt romney right now. despite what the polling data shows. well, stephen colbert weighed in. >> you can't trust polls, right fox news? >> the latest fox news polls give president obama an edge in three key swing states. once you isolate voters who are extremely interested in the election, the race is much closer. >> romney's tied when you focus on the inexpressibly intrigued. and he's up by two points when you count only voters who are psychotically engaged. folks, i have got my own source of polls, conservative blogger dean chambers who analyzed these polls favoring obama and then reached the scientific conclusion that they just didn't look right. chambers' work throws all polls into doubt now. even the internal ones i have taken of myself. i mean, the results say i'm not that excited about mitt romney, but as a conservative i feel like i should love him. maybe the sample size is too small or maybe i checked the wrong box and i'm actually latino, you know? >> it's not a good sign just six weeks from election day to bash the polls. >>> the f

has to be governor romney has to tie the poor economic conditions we find ourselves in right now to the failure of the president's policies. he has to be able to litigate and make the case that the policies the president has put forward have caused the economy to continue to go down. folks believe the economy is bad right now but what they don't actually believe is it is the president's fault. he has to make that case in the debate with the president standing on the stage with him that the president is the one to blame for the economy we've got right now. >> there is something going on. if he acts too much on the attack, it will look like he is showing disrespect to the president but if he doesn't, then he looks defer yen shl. coach me, tell me how to walk on that stage -- deferential. coach me without being deferential? >> it's a matter of tone and how you address the president. as long as governor romney addresses the president with mr. president, your policies have failed the american people. i think as long as he carries a respectful tone. he needs to be what i would say as p

disgustingly bias pieces against mitt romney and i believe bill is exactly right. when barack obama was challenged in that univision interview, last week, by hojorge ramos, he looks uncrtable when he's confronted with facts and simply worded question, when mitt romney reminds people, we have 11.7 unemployment, not 8.1%, america's best days have to be in front of her, i think he wins, not by having a, quote, human moment. i think that is a fool's earring but having a moment of real leadership and maturity. contrasted with a celebrity president who is comfortable with ellen or any of these late night hosts, than he is talking to the families of these insider attacks. i think romney has to be mature, and forceful, and has this idea, it is all in this debate, that is too convenient for the media. >> chris: juan, talk about it. but, because we kind of keep forgetting about obama. what does obama need to do. >> i think, president obama, he's leading in the polls, nationally and leading in the swing states. so, the question is, how do you reaffirm the existing status quo? >> you know, the

think the most effective ad that they have is on the air right now. it's capturing a small segment of the statement that governor romney made behind closed doors, not realized he was being taped, about the 47%. and it puts pictures of people who fall into that 47% on the screen and basically suggests that governor romney doesn't want to represent you and you and you. >>> mitt romney attacked 47% of americans who pay no income tax, including veterans, elderly, the disabled. >> my job is not to worry about those people. >> doesn't the president have to worry about everyone? >>> what makes it effective is governor romney's voice. and the fact that when you listen to the extended statement, you can make a plausible case that the tone was dismissive and so the ad reinforces something that people are inclined to believe about a republican, and they do it by showing you governor romney saying something and now a second factor comes into play. he said it in private. and when we're judging messages, we have these shortcuts that we just come to trust. politicians say things in public, i real
